Lake Norman Office update
4.20.2009
The Lake Norman Office and Statesville Office of the Greater Carolinas Chapter held the annual Hometown Heroes Campaign during the month of March.
This year, the branch offices decided to combine the campaign and focus on one goal of $37,000. The campaign jumped off very quickly with the Wal-Mart in Statesville and Gordon Iron & Metal of Statesville, both of which wanted to give a kick-off to the campaign - each gave a $1,000!
LakeShore Elementary and South Elementary in Mooresville quickly joined in making their donations.
Then, the Statesville Record & Landmark printed a wonderful article about the campaign, which led to the family of a deceased volunteer giving more than $16,000 (Read more about the Wyrick’s generous donation here). Another generous donation came from Energy United, which gave $10,000 to the campaign.
Other noted donors:
- Mooresville Noon Rotary: $3,100
- Kiwanis of Statesville $2,500
- The Pit in Mooresville had a family fun day, which led to close to $1,600
- St. Therese Catholic Church and Belk also participated.
To date, on a goal of $37,000, $36,894.36 has been collected with more than $8,200 pending.
With our economic times, the leadership volunteers that made up the Heroes Campaign - led by volunteer Ginger Missert - really came through for the Greater Carolinas Chapter. Thank you to everyone who generously donated and helped push our campaign.

Howard Hanlon began working in the Lake Norman Office on Monday, March 23. Howard is busy learning the ropes of the Emergency Services/Youth Services Program Manager position for the branches. Prior to this paid position Howard was a Disaster Action Team Captain for Zone B. Previously, Howard had been working off Clanton Road in Charlotte. The past three days, Howard has stated how nice it is to live just a few minutes from work and not dealing with all the traffic on Interstate 77. We welcome Howard in Iredell County and North Mecklenburg.
Darlene Browning is a Senior Aide working in the Lake Norman Office. Darlene is amazing. Darlene coordinated and obtained volunteers to work at The Pit fundraising event (part of the Heroes Campaign) to be held in Lake Norman on Saturday, March 28. Darlene obtained all the paper products, which will be needed, more than 400 hot dogs and 54 pizzas that will be delivered from various pizza establishments during the event. In addition, Darlene obtained several gift cards from various locations for the silent auction. Darlene is now arranging volunteers for the Belk Charity Days, which will be held the end of April. Darlene answers the phones, covers the office and is helping the volunteers of the Transportation Program when they have questions. Lake Norman is very fortunate to have Darlene.
