04.04.2011 Donate blood for a chance at round-trip tickets

For your chance to “Spring to the Skies,” simply stop by your local Red Cross donation center from April 1 to June 30, 2011 to donate blood or platelets. Two lucky presenting donors will be selected at random to receive a pair of round-trip tickets. Blood can be safely donated every 56 days. Most healthy people age 17 and older, or 16 with parental consent, who weigh at least 110 pounds, are eligible to donate blood and platelets. Donors who are 18 and younger must also meet specific height and weight requirements. Severe winter weather throughout much of the eastern half of the United States in recent weeks has caused the cancellation of more than 14,000 blood and platelet donations through the American Red Cross, more than 3,200 of which were in the Carolinas Region. 02.18.2009 American Red Cross provides assistance after multi-alarm fire

Capt. Rob Brisley of the Charlotte Fire Department reported a two-story house under construction in the 500 block of Iverson Way was “fully involved” with the fire, which affected four homes in the surrounding area. Residents in those structures were temporarily displaced due to the fire. The Red Cross is providing assistance to at least four clients and will continue to provide help on a case-by-case basis. read more »
