02.18.2009 American Red Cross provides assistance after multi-alarm fire
CHARLOTTE – The Greater Carolinas Chapter of the American Red Cross was alerted around 3 a.m. Wednesday to a multi-alarm fire on Iverson Way off South Boulevard.
Capt. Rob Brisley of the Charlotte Fire Department reported a two-story house under construction in the 500 block of Iverson Way was “fully involved” with the fire, which affected four homes in the surrounding area. Residents in those structures were temporarily displaced due to the fire. The Red Cross is providing assistance to at least four clients and will continue to provide help on a case-by-case basis.
Brisley said within 90 minutes of responding, firefighters were able to mark the incident under control and no injuries were reported. The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation, he said.
Red Cross volunteers provided breakfast and drinks to members of the Charlotte Fire Department and other first responders. Volunteers remain on the scene, providing food and drinks for first responders and working with clients to ensure their needs are met.
