08.05.2010 Red Cross finance officer wins CFO of the Year Award

Jeff Woodall, chief administrative officer for the local American Red Cross, on Thursday received the Charlotte Business Journal’s 2010 CFO of the Year Award for a Small Nonprofit.

“I feel very honored to be part of an organization like the Red Cross and thankful to work with such supportive volunteers and staff,” Woodall said.

Awards were presented to professionals in the Charlotte area who exemplify excellence as corporate financial stewards. Nominees were judged based on financial management skills, strategic thinking and a demonstrated commitment to fiscal integrity and accountability. 

Woodall has been working with the local Red Cross since September 2001.

“We are thrilled that Jeff has been recognized for all the hard work he has poured into the Red Cross,” said American Red Cross Carolina Piedmont Region Interim CEO Teresa Caver.

During his tenure at the Red Cross, Woodall has, among other things:


  • Saved the organization time and money by standardizing back office operations across 20 Red Cross chapters
  • Increased visibility of the organization’s financial position through improved reporting and timeliness of report submission to the central organization
  • Centralized the accounting function so the organization no longer relies on staff whose primary responsibility is committed to delivery of service
  • Created a budgeting tool to assist local chapters tackle the budgeting process by breaking the budget down to the smallest level and devising a roll-up which would feed to the national mandated format

Woodall also volunteers with the Newport Volunteer Fire Department and has helped on the ground with Red Cross responses to large-scale disasters.
