The Greater Carolinas Chapter of the American Red Cross opened a shelter Tuesday evening for residents displaced by local flooding.

At 6:45pm last night, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management called requesting that the Red Cross open a shelter at East Meck due to flooding at an apartment complex off Idlewild Road.  There were reports of other isolated flooding as well.

Through a partnership with East Mecklenburg High School, the Red Cross was able to use the gymnasium to shelter people in need. The shelter closed at 11:15 p.m. after no one sought help at East Meck. The Red Cross continues to monitor the weather and will assess the community’s needs.
