Intermediate Disaster Courses

Mass Care II

16 hour courses – no fee

The purpose of this course is to prepare Red Cross paid and volunteer staffs to establish, operate, and phase out Mass Care services on a State or Major disaster relief operation so that victims' needs are met in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Pre-Requisite: Mass Care: An Overview, Shelter Operations, Supervision in Disaster, and experience in the Mass Care function on a disaster relief operation

Public Affairs II

12 hour course – no fee

The purpose of this course is to examine the scope and responsibilities of the Public Affairs function, in order to provide a framework in which to apply your public affairs knowledge, skills, and experience on a large disaster relief operation.

Pre-Requisite: Public Affairs in Disaster I, Experience as a paid or volunteer public affairs professional and experience in the Public Affairs function on a disaster within or beyond the local unit.

Staffing II

15 hour course – no fee

The purpose of this training is to prepare participants to work in the Staffing function on larger disaster relief operation (DROs) and to orient them to the customer service philosophy of this internal support function.

Pre-Requisite: Introduction to Disaster Services and Human Resources in Disaster

State Relations Disaster Liaison (SRDL)

7.5 hour course – no fee

The purpose of this course is to prepare Red Cross paid and volunteer staff to function effectively as State Relations Disaster Liaisons (SRDL) and to help promote Red Cross leadership awareness and understanding of the requirements of the procedures for productive relations at the state level--before, during, and after a disaster.

Pre-Requisite: Collaboration to Ensure Effective Service Delivery, Emergency Operations Center and Extensive experience in chapter disaster services
