Growing Concerns of a Pandemic Flu

The possibility of a Pandemic Flu in the United States is receiving growing media coverage.  Scientists cannot yet seem to agree on the type or devastation that may hit the United States, or exactly when.  The U.S. Government recently released a plan in which they estimated that 40% of employees will be absent from work if we see a Pandemic Flu.  This document also states that the government’s resources will not be enough in the event of a Pandemic and urges all areas of service to be prepared to step up in these times.  The Red Cross, and particularly the Greater Carolinas Chapter, is preparing by creating a plan and anticipating how to meet possible needs within the community.

The importance of preparedness cannot be stressed enough.  With what is known, there is potential for an outbreak that can immobilize our lives, our communities, and our economy.  At this time there is no need to become panic-stricken, but we all must accept the responsibility to educate ourselves on Avian and Pandemic Flu and take necessary steps for readiness.

The Greater Carolinas Chapter is now offering a course in Pandemic Flu Preparedness.  In addition, this page includes web links to sites that will provide you with a wealth of information in Avian and Pandemic Flu.  Also, Ready Solutions is offering preparedness products specific to Pandemics also found in “Web Resources”.

Presentations Offered for Pandemic Flu Preparedness
