Disaster Services

If this is an emergency, please call the American Red Cross at (704) 283-7402.

Last year, 63 Union and Anson County families received emergency assistance from our Emergency Disaster Response program. These were mostly families experiencing devastating house fires.

Each family received disaster relief services such as immediate hotel placement, food, clothing, medicine and first month’s rent on a new residence. Our volunteer Disaster Action Teams respond to emergencies whenever called—24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Red Cross volunteers also support local first responders and other emergency service providers with canteen services. Last year, the local chapter provided 12 mass feedings serving 779 people.

Disaster Relief
Red Cross volunteers and paid staff are available 24 hours a day to provide immediate relief to victims of disasters.  The Red Cross responds to everything from single-family house fires to community-wide disasters such as hurricanes, floods and tornadoes.  Services include providing emergency shelter, food, and clothing to disaster victims in our community.

All disaster assistance is free, made possible by generous contributions of time and money from the citizens of Union County.

The Union County Chapter of the Red Cross also offers free presentations to families, children, schools, churches and civic groups about how to be prepared and stay safe if a disaster strikes. In addition, the Chapter provides training for community volunteers who are available to help with local and national disaster relief efforts.
